An oil or fuel (hydrocarbon) spill can occur due to various incidents, such as leaks from aboveground storage tanks, motor vehicle accidents, or train derailments. In these situations, the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) will conduct an inspection and issue a report with orders to delineate and remediate the spill.
Rapid response is crucial to prevent further environmental damage and limit the spread of contaminants to additional receptors.

Storage Tank Services
At CM3 Environmental, we provide a thorough and systematic consulting approach for the removal of storage tank systems:
Detailed Reporting: A report summarizing the assessment and remedial activities is provided to satisfy TSSA orders. This report includes detailed documentation of all actions taken to remediate the property and ensure regulatory compliance.
Assessment of Soil and Groundwater Contamination: Similar to a Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessment (ESA), we assess the extent of soil and/or groundwater contamination in the area of the removed equipment.
Development of a Remedial Plan: Based on the assessment, we develop a comprehensive remedial plan. While various remedial options are evaluated, excavation of contaminated soil is often preferred to remove the source of contamination. This approach is effective as once the contaminated soil is removed, groundwater contamination typically decreases naturally.
Confirmation Sampling: We conduct confirmation soil and water sampling to ensure that the remediation efforts have successfully addressed the contamination.
